View side contained several US "C" class submarines in Gatun Locks, in the Panama Canal. Accordingly, the delivery of this card was delayed (in America) by 3¼ years, owing to the sensitive nature of the submarines depicted, and was only released for delivery once World War II had ended.

Postage Due 1939 2d vertical pair on rural mail window envelope ex 29 February 1940 Hamilton, to Walton, bearing red RMD 9 POSTAGE DUE notice (printing order # 50,000/2/37-18423]) with 1 March 1940 Walton M.O.&S.B. purple octagonal date stamp requesting 4d uncancelled stamps to be attached affixed to front, & Walton 1 March 1940 "J" class cancel on front. The rear inadvertently bears red 2d meter frank prepaying inland letter rate postage. The addressee protested the charge, as 2d postage had been prepaid. Consequently, REDIRECTED POSTAGE DUE. accounting form {Acct. 78 (old No. Acct 154). 7,500/3/24-3079]} to Chief Postmaster, Hamilton requesting 4d worth of uncancelled postage due stamps to be returned, inadvertently taxed in error at / your office. Please see Rule 297 in black m/s with purple octagonal 4 March 1940 Walton M.O.&S.B. date stamp, was attached. Vendor states that these documents are the only reported examples that were left tied to mail i.e. extremely scarce.
