THE JIM SHAW COLLECTION - PART 2

New Zealand Commemoratives & Errors, Express Delivery, and Newspaper Stamps, etc

Saturday 17th March 2018

Commencing at 10.30pm

West Plaza Hotel, Wakefield Street, Wellington, New Zealand

Welcome to the second public auction of Jim Shaw’s numerous New Zealand collections. Last year’s October public auction focussed upon Jim’s New Zealand 1878 1d Stamp Duty and Postage dues award winning exhibits.

Part 2 comprises material from some of Jim’s other, equally noteworthy exhibits, some of which were never competitively shown. Jim’s acquisitions over 50 years of definitive and commemorative varieties are featured in his NZ large vermeil (silver-gold) Decimal Errors exhibit.

One of his most impressive errors was issued in 1994 for the 25th Anniversary of the Lunar Landing. Some conspiracy theories about this event maintain that Neil Armstrong did not land on the moon. If proof is ever needed to support this theory, Jim Shaw can provide it! His unique sheetlet of 10 with no man & no moon may be proof enough – especially with a recent obtained RPSNZ certificate to confirm!

Other collections featured in this sale include a ½d Newspaper Stamps & ½d Newspaper Wrappers exhibit (large vermeil); 1½d Boer War (gold) and Express Delivery (large vermeil). Single items as well as bulk offerings show Jim’s dedication to research. Many lots feature his annotated findings to position varieties and flaws.

Of course, there are varieties that are listed by CP, as well as some that are not (hopefully they will be in the future), and some unique and very scarce stamps in this sale. All lots in this sale are new (i.e. they were not featured in the 1st sale), and after discussion with Jim it has been decided to split his collections into two sales, thus the third and final offering of Jim’s fabulous collections will be held in conjunction with our 22 September 2018 public stamp auction.

My thanks go to David Smitham who has produced another great catalogue for this sale. We look forward to your participation in this sale and wish you well with your bidding.
