GB RESOLUTION AND ADVENTURE MEDAL 1772, Platina (copper, lead, tin and zinc alloy), 42.5 mm, coin orientation, Eimer 744, first die with vertical anchor. Obverse - George III; Reverse - Two ships at sea with inscription "Resolution Adventure Sailed From England March MDCCLXXII". Struck on the initiative of Sir Joseph Banks and distributed on Captain James Cook's second voyage, this example has been held by a non-New Zealand family since the early twentieth century, originally acquired by a seafaring family member. The appearance is typical of those carried by Cook on the voyage, with the lower reverse die crack through the word "March".
