NZ WWI 1914-15 Star & Railway Battalion Badge to 4/342 A L/CPL. G. H. McLEAN. N.Z.E.F. George Hugh McLean (1886-1970) enlisted as a Sapper on 11 Aug 1914, was in the Samoan Advance Party from 12 Aug 1914 to 10 March 1915, was promoted to Lance Corporal on 20 Jan 1915, served in Samoa until March 1915, then was discharged, probably being only marginally fit. He had voluntary service on the Reserve roll, the Railway Battalion NZ Engineers & then the Territorials until 1928, rising to Lieutenant. No ribbon. VF

Donald Douglas McDonald (1895 - 1950) served in Egypt & France having enlisted as a Sapper on 3 Sept 1915 with the Divisional Signal Company. Promoted to Corporal in the Otago Regiment on 7 April 1916, he suffered a gunshot wound to his wrist in Ypres in 1917 & was discharged unfit on 13 Feb 1918.
