485 ONE POUND 1894 POSTAL NOTE, Plate Proof with black frame, taiaha & clubs design, designer details below "A.E. Cousins, Engraver, Wellington, N.Z." with reverse red-lake design, Harwood PN2-P1, from the 1 November 1894 early banknote issue by an elected Colonial Government after the financial emergency of 1894 as recorded in Government records. See J. Harwood article, NZNJ 2017, pp 11 - 18. Extremely rare - 14 recorded in collector hands across colour trials, essays & proofs, issued notes unknown. Lower front internal circles intact. Several short splits not reaching the design apparent in margins, lower central split repaired with stamp hinge paper & a few foxing spots, lower left corner missing, otherwise VF. G $1,200.00
