CONNAUGHT RANGERS (2), Officer’s Irish 88th Connaught Rangers Shoulder Belt Plate, about 1831 - 55. The Regiment fought in the NZ Wars. With seeded gilt rectangular back plate with burnished edges, mounted with a silver star with the rays bearing battle honours, gilt crowned shamrock wreath on a scroll, with "Quis Separabit", pierced inner ring with "Connaught Rangers" & domed centre with gilt "88". On the bottom ray of the star is a gilt harp over a sphinx lying on a tablet inscribed "Egypt". Two hooks and two studs for attachment are on the reverse over leather; also gilt badge, slight twist, missing Crown at top. G - VF

WWI 1915 Brass Military Compass, outside flip cover impressed VERNER'S PATTERN / VII, back impressed B-L MADE IN SWITZERLAND NO 29410 1915 with government's broad arrow, crack in glass flip cover & well worn. This compass belonged to Patrick Hutchinson (1882 - 1937), born in Thames, a bushman by trade who worked for Batholomeu Timber Co Ngatiri before enlistment and a Rifleman in the NZEF 12th Reinforcements, 1st Battalion.
