BRITISH EMPIRE GAMES 1938 (2), 3rd Place Bronze & Participants Medals, to J. G. LECKIE. James George Leckie (1903-1982) was a prominent NZ athlete. He competed at the 1938 British Empire Games in Sydney in the men's hammer throw, coming 3rd & was also flagbearer for NZ. Only 71 Bronze winners' medals were awarded to Athletes at the 1938 games & only 13 to New Zealanders. Both medals are very scarce. Leckie also competed in the 1950 Empire Games in Auckland.
