Cornaga Esq., New Zealand" & typed "Per favor of Mr S.E. Nielson on flight in "Southern Cross" Australia to New Zealand". Not cancelled in Australia, but both stamps canc New Plymouth cds 12 JA 33, also Auckland 14 JA, Wellington 17 JA, & partial Cambridge cds. Signed on back by crew C. Kingsford Smith, P.G. Taylor & J. Stannage, & passengers S.E. Nielson (New Plymouth Aero Club secretary) & J. Percival (journalist). Cover stained & "distressed" (front separated from back). Rear bears 5.1.31 (=5 Jan 1942) Shanghai bilingual cogwheel cancel. Also 2ND NOTICE SENT / ON and 3RD NOTICE SENT / ON black cachets, respectively dated 9.1.42 & 13.1.42. NZ-Australia 1928 (13-14 Oct) return trans-Tasman flight of "Southern Cross", Blenheim to Sydney: special 4 page pictorial souvenir folder (brown on cream) produced by Marlborough Aero Club. See "Airmails of NZ, Vol 2" (DA Walker, 1986), p7 (which states "few exist today"). With m/s ink endorsement "To Mr Baggs, with many thanks from C. Kingsford-Smith". Also, original typed letter from Radio Broadcasting Co. of NZ Ltd to "Mr Baggs, District Telegraph Engineer, Nelson", thanking him for his technical help with broadcasts tracking this pioneer flight. Plus c1980 newspaper article re the flight. Rare & historic group, in VG condition. Note: folder not postally used.
