Cook Isl 1925 2/- QVLT blue, "RAROTONGA ovpt (carmine-red), p14½ x 14. Variant printed on Jones chalk-surfaced paper. FU, canc partial Rarotonga cds (date off stamp). Not recorded by Collins & Burge in "The Postage Stamps of New Zealand" Vol 5 (NZ Dependencies, 1967). Vol 5 records new printings (600 of each) of the 2/- & 10/- Long Types being made in Feb 1925 but describes these (seemingly in error) as being on "Roughway" (De La Rue) chalk-surfaced paper. This stamp (on Jones paper) is known only used (from very few examples). Rare. Ex Don Mee. With photocopy of corroborating article by KJ McNaught, the original discoverer of this variety (NZSC Vol 61 No 4, Dec 1981). SG 76c. Cat £650.
