Lot Type: C
Belgium 1940 WWII cover with Belgian stamps (1F75c) & cancel. Addressed to person at P.O. Box 506, Lisbon, Portugal. This was an accommodation address operated by Thomas Cook Ltd (in collaboration with the British authorities) to facilitate transmission of mail (otherwise impossible) between occupied Europe & Allied countries. With German censor resealing strip & h/ss (with Nazi insignia) & Portuguese receipt machine pmk across back. Finally, British censor resealing strip applied along edge (in Portugal). Once cleared from the box, the cover (with contents) would be placed inside another cover with the intended address on it (known to Thomas Cook Ltd), for forwarding from Portugal (which was neutral during the war). Ingenious scheme!
